As you know, 4RootZ is made to help people conveniently style away their gray. That doesn’t mean we have anything against gray hair, quite the contrary! We believe people should have the power to choose what color their hair is, whenever they want. We absolutely don’t think that there should be any discrimination over having a little (or a lot) of gray. But is there?
When spending lazy Sundays at home loafing around, do you really need to have color in your hair? Probably not. Permanent hair color can dry hair out and destroy its smooth texture. We think gray hair is just as beautiful. But there are always those times we feel self-conscious about everything about us, gray hair included.
Is the workplace one of those times? The question is interesting to us. Could going gray lead to age discrimination at work? Is being deemed “old,” regardless of age, hurting the way people view you in the workplace. Could it help? I guess the answer is “it depends.”
Having gray hair at work
Age discrimination at work is an unfortunate part of the corporate world. Jobs associated with technology and marketing, especially, tend to favor younger, fresher talent with more acclimation toward technology and social media.
It can be tricky to transition yourself from the young pup to the more experienced, older professional who garners respect.
But, could it be a good thing?
Don’t get us wrong, depending on the job and position, gray hair can be deemed to be a positive just as often.
Think about it, would you rather your accountant be a millennial or a seasoned professional? It depends on the person you ask, but gray hair in a professional environment can sometimes garner respect and show experience, not to mention some past stress that has been defeated. Just look at the presidents of the United States for an example
Options for covering grays only when you want to
Love your gray hair but feel like it could be hurting your appearance in the office? Hold a little experiment. That’s part of the reason we developed 4RootZ. We wanted to give you the option. You don’t always want to cover grays and now you don’t always need to either.
Your experiment at work could yield some pretty incredible results or it could show you that it was all in your head all along. Why not figure it out for sure? Using a hair coloring gel requires no commitment. You don’t have to live with the color if you don’t like it. All you must do is wash it out.
We would love to hear from you guys on this. Let us know how it works and what happens once you change the color of your hair. Do people suddenly treat you differently? Let us know.
